Based in Toyama, Japan, the producer known as New Otani is rumored to be a Southeast Asian expatriate artist. Passionate about digging through rare and domestic Japanese records, he draws inspiration from a wide range of sources, from local dance music productions to the traditional melodies of Showa-era kayōkyoku. Dr Disco / Refrain showcases his playful interpretation of retro dance music infused with distinctly Japanese flavors, reimagined through a modern sonic lens. The result injects a fresh burst of creativity into Japan’s underground music landscape.
